President Barrack Obama Essay Example for Free

President Barrack Obama Essay Every politician makes promises of what he or she will do when elected president and many of them do not see their promises through. President Barrack Obama is no exception and he made more than 500 promises to the people of United States of America if elected president. People should not except that promises politicians make to be a 100% fulfilled. However, president Barrack Obama has fulfilled a number of the promises he made to the people while others are to be fulfilled. The paper focuses on some of the promises the president promised during his campaigns for presidency and their state in the present day, a discussion if Obama would invade Iran and the new Arizona Immigrant Bill and whether he should get involved. How well does President Barrack Obama live to the expectations of the people? President Barrack Obama Barrack Obama is the 44th president of America and won the elections on 4th November, 2008 by a landslide win of 52. 9% against his opponent from the Republican Party, John McCain who acquired 45. 7% popular vote. During his campaign, president Barrack Obama made more than 500 promises to the people which were to be fulfilled after he was elected president. It has been one year and seven months since his inauguration on January 20, 2009. Albeit speculations about his promises as campaign tools for presidency, president Barrack Obama has undergone both positive and negative criticisms based on the same promises that defined him during his campaign and has managed to fulfill some of the promises he made to the people of the United States of America, while others stand to be fulfilled (Janny, 2008). I would say that the Obama reign and governance still has time to fulfill the promises it made to the people of the United States of America. Either way, critics would still be made about him either carrying out Bush practices to his administration and of being a president who used vague promises to the people of the United States in order to be elected president. Some believe that president Obama is the most widely criticized president of the United States of America for all times. All in all, the president deserves a pat on the back for the promises he has managed to fulfill, the promises he is still fulfilling and the promises he is to fulfill. Time would tell if his promises were merely campaign tools by the end of his era, which till then, president Obama has a lot to live to the expectations of the people of the United States of America, the people who elected him believing that he was the new dawn for America, an era of the youths to rule (Janny, 2008). Some may argue that president Obama has continued to carry on the practices in the retired president bush regime while others believe that Obama has carried out recommendable efforts to change the country. President Obama made promises to the people of the United States, but the people should not expect the promises to be fulfilled overnight. Some of the things he promised are becoming harder and harder to fulfill for instance the promise of the united states government being transparent, accountable and allowing the press to have access to government records. He promised to end the blanket of secrecy the Bush regime operated under by making the government act responsibly and become more accountable to the people it is serving and thereby making him the most liberal president of the U. S. (Janny, 2008). The promise of openness was signed during his first day in office and to present day still remains making it easier for the Americans to scrutinize the government for there is no secrecy that has been typical of past American governments. However, this promise has been challenged after the high court ruled out publication of torture article for the Guantanamo Bay detainees. The position for not publishing is because the information, if it were to be published would make United Kingdom questions the intelligence of sharing information with the U. S. This has added to the doubts as to whether president’s Obama promises were merely campaign tools (Stolberg, 2010). In the article â€Å"Barrack Obama on the issues: what would be your top three priorities if elected? † (2008), during his campaigns, he made one of his major promises to withdraw the United States troops from Iraq and end the Iraq war. Many citizens embraced the idea with open arms for they believed that the U. S. interference with Iraq was costing the country a lot of money which could be used to salvage other countries’ priorities. He promised the people that he was going to make sure that United States troop’s combats were going to be out of Iraq within six months since his election as president. The promise to remove troops from Iraq came to pass during his first days as president of the United States of America when he ordered that United States military to start preparing to leave Iraq. Today, the president’s promise is getting closer to be fulfilled for he has already set the deadline for withdrawal of the troops as 31st August, 2010 for the promise to be executed on schedule. Alongside with the directives he issued in his first days as president, for the U. S. military to withdraw from Iraq, he believe that by withdrawing the United States military troops, the U. S. would be giving Iraq government autonomy and independence over the future of its people and country. Iraq government will have to deal with terrorist threats themselves and form their own government. This he said because he believed in the diplomatic way of solving conflicts and the U. S. as a mediator between the countries bordering Iraq for peace to be attained in the region. In the article â€Å"Barrack Obama on the issues: what would be your top three priorities if elected? † (2008), President Obama intended to close down the Guantanamo detention camp immediately he took over as president but this was hindered by a number of factors. The camp was to be closed within one year and terrorist suspects were no longer to be interrogated using torture methods. In addition, it was made illegal for the U. S. to have secret detention camps in other countries or for such camps to be built in the future. This involved the closure of CIA secret detention centers, further closure of the Afghanistan and Iraq detention facilities in the future. President barrack Obama, said that by closing the detention camp, it would allow the detainees who have been help up in the camps without fair trial the opportunity of fair trial or release. This was to ensure that the United States of America government practiced more ethical values of dealing with violence and terrorism other that the inhuman methods employed by the Bush administration. The promise still remains to be fulfilled as many countries have shown reluctance to receiving terrorists in their countries. Issues are still arising as to whether the terrorist after being delivered to other countries will be tortured. Arguably, some people believe that the terrorists are too dangerous to be released and therefore the promise stands to be fulfilled within the time that president Obama is in power. President Obama also promised that there would be no tax hikes for those people with an annual income of less than $250,000 which comprises of a large number of people because most of them barely make $100,000 along side his health care reform promise to include more people being insured. In the article â€Å"Barrack Obama on the issues: what would be your top three priorities if elected? † (2008), however, when tax on cigarette was increased, it made the promise during the campaign unrealistic because majority of those who use cigarettes barely make more than $250,000. Many people interpreted his promises differently for it is very unrealistic not to tax anything that the poor man uses. In addition, increase in tax on cigarettes leads to a decline on those people who use them especially the under aged since they cannot afford it. For a non dictator president like Barrack Obama not to dogmatically impose his ideas on the people, I tend to think that people are being unfair to him and are judging him too harshly. He has done a lot in light of the promises; he is being pushed from all sides by people who are wishing that he fails in his reign as president and also compressed to meet both the republicans and democrats demands of the government. When pushed too much, both internationally and domestically, Obama has ended up not doing anything and this has contributed to the down fall of the United States economy but there is time for him to correct his mistakes and carry on with the promises. What the United States of America people and politicians should be doing is to lend him a hand and not expect him to put the country on track single handedly. President Barrack Obama is also working with people who did not promise anything to the people of the United States of America and therefore they do not feel compelled to help him attain his goals (Janny, 2008). Speculations arise as to whether president Obama could invade Iran after it announced that it has started converting uranium into gas. It is believed that Iran is a step away from making nuclear bomb even after the suspension of such activities in Iran by the International Atomic Energy Agency. President Obama has considered asking other countries to request Iran into giving up through international community and solidarity into pressuring Iran give up its nuclear interests. When diplomatic efforts fails to make Iran cease its nuclear efforts, I think president Obama will result into invading the country through the military striking the productions sites of nuclear in Iran. Invading Iran will no doubt create bad relations of the U. S. with the Arab Emirates but president Obama considers it better than having a liberal Muslim state possess nuclear weapons. In addition to his country’s troops been in Iraq, Obama is left with no choice than to invade Iran if international sanction do not compel the country to stop its quest for nuclear weapons (Janny, 2008). The new Arizona Immigrant Bill is believed to be one of the toughest bills on immigrants. Upon the enactment of the bill, immigrants will be identified, prosecuted and deported back to their home country if suspected to be in Arizona illegally. Immigrants in Arizona are to carry immigration documents which make it an offense not to have the immigration documents in the country. The police will have the power to arrest and detain those people who are in the country illegally. Many people are opposed to it feeling that it opens up the right to harassment of foreigners and any person suspected of being a foreigner thereby undermining the rights of people. Others are for the bill to be enacted and strict penalties be imposed on employers who hire illegal immigrants imposed. This is in line with the belief that most immigrants are taking up the rights of Americans in the workplace while Native Americans continue to suffer for they lack job opportunities which have been grabbed by the illegal immigrants. The bill is also anticipated to build a lot of racism and ethnic outline. Furthermore immigrants will fear reporting anything to the authority for fear of being deported to their country, which is not in line with combating crime in Arizona. Various organizations are opposed to the immigration bill and calls for its revoking for fear that it may spread from Arizona to other states and therefore jeopardizing public safety. President barrack Obama is opposed to the immigration bill in Arizona terming it as misguided and poorly conceived. I think the president should get involved in coming up with immigration reforms but only when he conjures up the democrats together with the republicans into putting in place immigration laws that are not unethical (Janny, 2008). President Obama health care plan was among the promises he delivered during his campaign. He sought to end the way insurance companies abuse the rights of the citizens of America. In the bill, the president aimed at creating and enacting rules that saw everybody being treated fairly when it came to health care and creating health care insurances for the people which are affordable. It was a concern for the president that many Americans could not afford health care insurance and thereby incorporated a promise on health care to broaden the number of people under insurance in the country especially those who are poor. One of the ways that affordable insurance is being maintained is through the tax increase on cigarettes. A large percentage of the money is being channeled to poor families specifically those families that have been victims of tobacco and could not afford health care insurance (Stolberg, 2010). I strongly agree with president Obama’s health care plan. Through his plan more and more people are assured of obtaining medical cover. The move to provide the middle class with tax cuts ensures that those people who were never covered will be covered and afford health care in the united states of America. In as much as critics are arising as to whether universal health care is possible, what Obama is doing to provide affordable medical services affordable is commendable. Insurance companies will also be more accountable for they will have rules that are governing them not to deny health coverage to the people of America. The era where poor American could not afford the similar choices of medical insurance with prominent members of parliament are long gone through the Obama health care plan. The plan aims at providing leverage in terms of insurance with competitive prices of health care insurance and no longer will Americans be discriminated in light of provision of health care. With such propositions, it would be very unwise not to fully agree with what president Barrack Obama is doing for his country (Stolberg, 2010). â€Å"Yes We Can† was the slogan during the campaigns for presidency which saw Obama defeat McCain and become the 44th president of America. Being a young presidential candidate, many youths believed in him and they voted him to bring about reforms in America. Obama widely campaigned and made more than 500 promises to the people of America. Some of the promises have been attained; others are in progress while others may seem to have been forgotten. It is however myopic to discredit what the president has done for his country and what he is trying to do. President Obama has many promises to fulfill and this is worsened by the way he is being judged on a daily basis. It is as if he is walking through the hawk eyes of a people that is relaxing and watching what one man alone can do for his country. By the mere fact that he promised to bring about reforms in the government and move away from practices that were during the Bush era, it does not mean that he will do it alone. The slogan â€Å"Yes We Can† I tend to believe incorporated every individual who is an American citizen to work together to bring about changes in the country. In addition, his time as the president of America is not yet over and the president will do the best he can to fulfill his promises to the nation for the promises are geared towards the development of America and its citizens (Janny, 2008). Watergate: Was The Nixon White House Involved? :: essays research papers

Watergate: Was The Nixon White House Involved? What was Watergate? "Watergate" is a term used to describe a complex web of political scandals occurring between 1972 and 1974. On January 20, 1969, Richard M. Nixon had become the thirty-seventh president of the United States. As Nixon entered the White House, he was â€Å"full of bitterness and anger about past defeats, and about years of perceived slights from others in the political establishment.† Nixon, a Republican, once stated that, â€Å"Washington is a city run primarily by Democrats and liberals, dominated by like-minded newspapers and other media.† Nixon's obligation to control his political destiny and to forestall the damaging of his agenda by incumbents urged him toward the development of what was, in effect, a â€Å"secret government† (Gettlin and Colodny 6). The word, â€Å"Watergate†, refers to the Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C. In addition to the hotel, the Watergate complex houses many business offices. It was here that the offices of the Democratic National Committee were burglarizedon June 17, 1972. Five individuals were arrested at the Watergate complex after the burglary. Charges were also pressed on G. George Liddy and E. Howard Hunt ; the â€Å"Watergate Seven† were sentenced by Judge John Sirica. Although Nixon was worried about the break-in, he advised the White House press secretary, Ron Ziegler, to dismiss the incident as â€Å"a third-rate burglary† (Cannon 107). In the years ensuing the invasion at the Watergate building, questions and controversy have surfaced consequent to whether or not the White House, under the control of President Nixon, was either directly or discursively involved in the planning and/or performing of any illegal deeds. As the Watergate scandal unfolded, the Nixon administration was quick to mitigate the responsibility for the occurrences, however, in actuality, numerous facts and particulars ascertain White House involvement and justify the repercussions. The arrests of the "Watergate Seven" eventually uncovered a â€Å"White House-sponsored plan of espionage against political opponents and a trail of complicity that led to many of the highest officials in the land† (Jacobs, â€Å" Watergate†). These high political executives included former United States Attorney General John Mitchell, White House Counsel John Dean, White House Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs John Ehrlichman, White House Chief of Staff H.R. Haldeman, and President Nixon himself. Evidence corroborating White House involvement was ample and immense. On April 30, 1973, close to a year after the burglary and subsequent to a grand jury investigation of the break-in, President Nixon affirmed the resignation of H.R. Haldeman and John Ehrlichman and announced the dismissal of John Dean; United States Attorney General Richard Kleindienst resigned as well. The resignations and dismissal were all results

Equality and Inclusion in Health and Social Care

Promote equality and inclusion in health, social care or childrens and young peoples settings.Explain what is meant by: DiversityThe differences between individuals and groups in society arising from gender, ethnic origins, social, cultural or religious back ground, familtnstructure, disabilities, sexuality and appearance. Equality- is ensuring individuals or groups of individuals are treated fairly and equally and no less favourably, specific to their needs, including areas of race, gender, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation and age.Inclusion is about equal opportunities for all, whatever their age, gender, ethnicity, attainment and background.Describe the potiential effects of discriminationDiscrimination against children makes them have a low-self esteem and they find life very lonely. They may resentful towards those discriminating them and perform poorly when it comes to activities set for them. They may become defensive and are reluctant to ask for help for fear of ridicule or embarrassment.Explain how inclusive practise promotes equality and supports diversityPromoting inclusion is to help children have positive attitudes towards differences and so reduce the likelihood thst they will develop prejudiced views, you can practise this in ways such as helping children see differnces in a positive way- as interesting and enriching to all our lives and develop positive and respectful attitudes towards people from all walks of life.Explain how legislation and code of practice relating to eqaulity, diversity and discrimination apply to your own work roleThe Equality Act 2010 brings together all previous acts relating to equality and discrimination. The Act applies to all organisations that provide a service to the public. The Act protects all individuals and groups from discrimination. Early years setting must be aware of these laws and have in place a policy regarding equality of opportunities and for supporting children with learning difficulti es and disabilities Providers must also have regard to the SEN code of practice. The EYFS also states that providers have a responsibility to enssure positive attitudes to diversity and difference. Within my setting we have a Equality and Diversity policy and a SEN and disability policy these policies must be followed by staff and integrated in to our working practice. The policies bring together all the main points from the various acts and the requirements of the EYFS.Describe how to challange discrimination in a way that promotes changeYou should never ignore or excuse such discriminatory behaviour any more than you would ignore or excuse someone if they inflicted physical pain on someone else. It must be addressed because if you do not respond and just let the incident pass you are contributing to the person feeling that it is acceptable to speak or behave that way. To promote change you need to change people’s attitude toward other races, sexuality, religion etc.We try to educate our children in my setting about different culture, disabilities by doing things like having time so that children can share their experiences with each other, and encourage them to think of other people’s feelings and share different options with each other and also give them the opportunity to think about what it is like foe other people and ask them to think about themselves in other people shoes.

I Have a Dream - Childrens Book About MLK Junior

On August 28, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his I Have a Dream speech, a speech that is still remembered and honored today. I Have a Dream by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., published in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the minister and civil rights leaders dramatic speech, is a childrens book for all ages that adults will also find meaningful. Excerpts of the speech, chosen for their accessibility to childrens understanding, are paired with the stunning oil paintings of artist Kadir Nelson. At the end of the book, which is in picture book format, youll find the full text of the Dr. Kings speech. A CD of the original speech is also included with the book. The Speech Dr. King delivered his speech to the more than a quarter of a million people participating in the March for Jobs and Freedom. He delivered his speech in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. While stressing nonviolence, Dr. King made it clear that, Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. In the speech, Dr. King outlined his dream for a better America. While the speech, which was interrupted by cheers and applause from the enthusiastic audience, only lasted about 15 minutes, it and the integrated march had a profound impact on the Civil Rights Movement. The Books Design and Illustrations I had the opportunity to hear Kadir Nelson speak at the 2012 Book Expo America Childrens Literature Breakfast about the research he did, the approach he took, and his goals in creating the oil paintings for I Have a Dream. Nelson said he had to memorize Dr. Kings speech on short notice as a fifth grader just after moving to a new school. He said doing so made him feel stronger and more confident, and he hoped I Have a Dream would similarly affect children today. Kadir Nelson said that at first he wondered what he could contribute to Dr. Kings magnificent vision. In preparation, he listened to Dr. Kings speeches, watched documentaries and studied old photographs. He also visited Washington, D.C. so he could create his own photographic reference and better imagine what Dr. King saw and did. He and the editor worked to decide on what portions of Dr. Kings I Have a Dream would be illustrated. They chose segments that were not only important and well known but that spoke loudest to children. In illustrating the book, Nelson created two types of paintings: those that illustrated Dr. King giving the speech and those that illustrated Dr. Kings dream. At first, Nelson said he was unsure how to differentiate the two. It ended up that when illustrating the setting and mood of the day, Nelson created oil paintings of the scene as it was during Dr. Kings speech. When it came to illustrating the dream, Nelson said he tried to illustrate not the words so much as the concepts they represented and he used a bright cloud-like white background. Only at the end of the book, do the dream and reality merge. Kadir Nelsons artwork wonderfully illustrates the drama, the hopes and the dreams laid out that day in Washington, D.C. by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The choice of excerpts and Nelsons sensitive illustrations combine to create meaning for even younger children who may not yet be mature enough to understand the full speech. The scenes that look out over Dr. Kings audience emphasize the breadth of his impact. The large close-up paintings of Dr. King emphasize the significance of his role and his emotions as he delivers the speech. Martin Luther King, Jr - Childrens Books and Other Resources There are several books about Martin Luther King, Jr. that I particularly recommend for children 9 and older who are interested in learning more about the civil rights leaders life. by Doreen Rappaport, provides an overview of Kings life and packs an emotional punch with its dramatic illustrations by Bryan Collier. The second, Portraits of African American Heroes features a portrait of Dr. King on the cover. He is one of 20 African Americans, men and women, featured in the nonfiction book by Tonya Bolden, along with sepia-toned portraits of each by Ansel Pitcairn. For educational resources, see Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: Lesson Plans You Can Use and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: General Information and Reference Material. Youll find additional resources in the linkboxes and below. The Illustrator Kadir Nelson Artist Kadir Nelson has won numerous awards for his childrens book illustrations. He has also written and illustrated several award-winning childrens books: We Are the Ship, his book about the Negro Baseball League, for which he won the Robert F. Sibert Medal in 2009. Children who read Heart and Soul will learn about the Civil Rights Movement and the important role that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. played. The CD Inside the front cover of I Have a Dream is a plastic pocket with a CD in it of Dr. Kings original I Have a Dream speech, recorded on August 28, 1963. It is interesting to read the book, then the entire text of the speech and, then, listen to Dr. King speaking. By reading the book and discussing the illustrations with your children, youll gain insight as to the meaning of Dr. Kings words and how your children perceive them. Having the entire text in print allows older children to ponder Dr. Kings words more than once. Dr. King was a compelling speaker and what the CD does, is allows listeners to experience for themselves Dr. Kings emotion and impact as he spoke and the crowd responded. My Recommendation This is a book for family members to read and discuss together. The illustrations will help younger children to grasp more of the meaning of Kings speech and will help all ages to better understand both the significance and the impact of Dr. Kings words. The addition of the text of the entire speech at the end of the book, along with a CD of Dr. King delivering the speech, make I Have a Dream an excellent resource for the 50th anniversary of Dr. Kings speech and beyond. The Atomic Bomb How It Protected - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 3 Words: 1022 Downloads: 6 Date added: 2019/08/08 Category History Essay Level High school Tags: Atomic Bomb Essay Did you like this example? Trinity, a graphic history of the first atomic bomb, is written by Jonathan Fetter-Vorm and describes the detailed process of how the atomic bomb was created and how it was used against Japan in the second World War. Theodore Van Kirk was the navigator on the plane that dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima. In an interview, he was asked to describe his mission, the time leading up to it, and his perspective on dropping the bomb. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "The Atomic Bomb: How It Protected" essay for you Create order It is seen from both authors that protecting American citizens and soldiers was the top priority, as well as ending the war. Fetter-Vorm uses the trope, protection, to argue that the bomb was the safest way to accomplish their main goal: to end the war. United States leaders and army generals hoped to lessen the total number of casualties from the war. Similarly, Van Kirk uses protection as his trope to argue the bomb was the best way to quickly end the war. It is important to look at how both authors utilize the trope in order to prove that using the atomic bomb was the ideal option to effectively end the war and save the lives of Americans. In Trinity, Henry Stimson, the Secretary of War, argues that the war would become more violent if Japan was invaded, and this is significant because it shows the bomb was the better choice for ending the war. During a meeting, Stimson said, If America invades Japan, we will have to go through an even more bitter finish fight than we did in Germany (83). The general wanted to protect the soldiers that would be shipped out to Japan. Dropping the bomb meant that Japan would not have to be invaded, which also meant that there would be less American casualties. In the interview with Van Kirk, he explains that dropping the atomic bomb would save both Japanese and American lives, which is significant because this also shows that lessening the impending number of casualties was important to military leaders. Van Kirk believed that the number of casualties would have been much higher for both the United States and Japan if they had chosen to invade Japan instead of dropping the bomb. Though t he bomb resulted in mass Japanese casualties, both sources illustrate that the result of an invasion would have been much worse for the countries involved. Soldiers were depicted in Trinity as restless before their mission, as they laid awake thinking about the possibility of being seen as heroes. This is significant, because they believed they were going to end the war. They believed this was in the best interest of Americans, because they were protecting them from the Japanese. In the same way, Van Kirk describes himself and his fellow airmen as not being able to go to sleep, because they were wondering if the bomb was actually going to work. It is significant, because they wanted the atomic bomb to work in order to ultimately save lives and bring the war to an end. Both Van Kirk and the soldiers from Trinity felt this was their only option to end the war. In contrast to Trinity, Van Kirk and the others on his mission team were not thinking about being seen on television or wondering if they would be considered heroes by their neighbors. They were not looking for recognition; they just wanted to serve their country. Overall, protectio n was conveyed by both parties, as they wanted to end the war and save as many American lives as possible. During the interview, Van Kirk describing how the Japanese were not good people back then is significant because it was a way of condoning killing the Japanese [7:03]. Though he did not admit it, this potentially could have been Van Kirks way of killing any remorse he felt from killing so many Japanese civilians. By dropping the bomb, the United States would subdue the people of Japan, thereby saving American lives. In the Trinity, General Curtis LeMay rhetorically questions if it is better to have dead Japanese or dead Americans, and this is significant because it illustrates how the safety of Americans was prioritized. He was looking out for his soldiers best interests, as well as those of United States citizens. Both LeMay and Van Kirk would agree that Japan was the enemy, so protecting Americans was more important than worrying about the number of casualties Japan was going to accumulate. In the book, the Japanese had to decide if they should surrender to the United States, and this is significant because they had to think about the safety of their citizens. On the fifteenth of August, the emperor of Japan surrendered by stating, Should we continue to fight, it would not only result in an ultimate collapse of the Japanese nation, but also it would lead to the total extinction of human civilization (131). Japanese leaders had considered the effects of continuing the war, but they recognized that the safety of their citizens was in jeopardy. They did not want their race to become extinct. In the interview, Van Kirk discussing the many casualties of war and how he knew several prisoners of war is significant, because it explains why he felt the bomb was needed. He was willing to do whatever it took to end the war. Like the Japanese, Van Kirk did not want there to be any more casualties. In the graphic novel Trinity and the interview with Air Force navigator Theodore Van Kirk, the theme of protection through the use of the atomic bomb was displayed in various ways. It is conveyed by both sources that saving American lives and ending the war was the top priority. The atomic bomb effectively brought the war to an end, resulting in many innocent Japanese lives being taken. Fetter-Vorm uses protection to argue that the bomb was the safest way to end the war. Likewise, Van Kirk uses protection to argue that the bomb was the most effective way to end the war. Both authors utilize the trope, protection, to prove that using the atomic bomb was the best way to end the war.

Women s Rights By Margaret Brent - 1213 Words

Women’s rights did not officially begin to be a problem until 1848. Many believe that it’s been a problem from at most the 1600’s. Colonial women didn’t give a thought about their rights, but there were some female political leaders. Margaret Brent, a woman who had been given power-of-attorney from Lord Baltimore. Judith Sargent Stevens Murray, the writer of the United States’ first feminist theory. â€Å"Will it be said that the judgment of a male of two years old is more sage than that of a female the same age? Women found they now couldn’t do anything to help. That led abolitionist women to begin to defend their right to speak in public and discuss thoroughly during petition drives. All throughout the 1850’s more and more people joined the women s rights movement, and it was in the abolition movement that women first learned to organize, to hold public meetings, and to conduct petition campaigns. As time went on state legislatures began to act favorably to woman’s influence and petition efforts for reforms in property law. By 1860 fourteen states passed a form of women’s property laws, for example New York legislatures passed the Married Women’s Property Act. The law gave married New Y ork women all economic rights they demanded, but still refused the women the right to vote. May 1866, the eleventh women’s rights convention was held. Judging others by their appearances free essay sample

To see is to believe. It’s one of the reasons why we often misjudge people based on their appearance, we see their outlook as a reflection of their personality or on how they live their lives. We are human beings; we are so quick to judge others. I know that judging others will hurt them because in the first place nobody likes it. As for me I do not like people judging others especially if they didn’t even know them, but we always have that some point in time that we cannot avoid judging people, it is part of growing up with our surroundings and becoming aware of them. But saying that you do not like a person because of how he/she looks like is going overboard of judging, this may often lead to bullying and losing self esteem because of their appearance. That’s why some girls wouldn’t even go out without wearing makeup, because make up can enhance beauty and thus boosting confidence in oneself. Judging others can lead to racism and discrimination which is a bad thing, by judging in that kind of way is stereotyping others. When a girl sees a man with lots of tattoos and piercing, she assumes that this man is a criminal which is a form of stereotyping. Some forms of judgment is psychological, example when a boy was bullied as a child by a guy who used to wear red all the time, this boy might grow up fearing and avoiding those who wear red. It all depends on our surroundings and on how we think of others. The viral music video of Miley Cyrus’ wreaking ball has a lot of judgment going on; people were disappointed by the way she turned out to be. I mean, no one expected her to be completely different and naked in her music video since she was a Disney child star. Most of the people discriminated her because of what they saw in that video, but for Miley it was more than that, the lyrics within that she wrote herself was more of an expression of how broken she is. All I’m saying is that we shouldn’t immediately judge things based on what we see but we should also understand the story  behind it because it does help others. If you don’t have anything good to say, you might as well just shut up because words are powerful than what we think. The saying goes; â€Å"Do not judge a book by its cover† is true. Just like a book, if the cover seems unappealing, there are possibilities that we won’t even bother reading it. Based on psychology, Beliefs are formed in the subconscious mind as a result of repetition. If you were told each day that you should not judge a book by its cover then you will grow up as an adult who never judges people by appearance. According to some articles, people judge others based on physical appearance for a number of reasons. People are driven by physical pleasures and beauty. People also prejudiced against some factors such as skin colour and gender. In addition, people have been influenced by the media which has portrayed some things as bad while other good. One popular psychological fact states that if you met a person who was really nice and interesting then most probably you will think that all of those who look like him to be interesting people. Medias has a lot of judgments when selecting a character roles, when someone looks handsome, they are immediately selected as a Hero while those are not that handsome to them portrays as the villains, because the more good looking the hero is, there will be more viewers and thus raising their own money. It is a human nature to compare ourselves to others, whether it’s to our family members, peers or even celebrities we see in the media. We base our judgments of ourselves and others on these comparisons. Others say that it is wrong to judge someone by their physical appearance because your making fun of how they look and that is not right. And thats called BULLYING and your making fun of gods creation thats the way they look. So in judging other based on their appearance is wrong because never see others characters by their clothes. In fact, some the riches have much money, modern car, huge home, and high education but their characters are not good. They always use abusive words to poor people. If we look by their appearance, we will conclude that they are the good people but it not at all. Therefore, we should all judge someone by their character and not looks.
